Local Bands join forces for blues-rock night

Malta Independent Saturday, 21 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Three local up-and-coming bands have teamed up to create a Blues-Rock Night, which promises to be an energetic music mini-festival with a difference… where its title actually reflects the music to be played.

Bands Sublime, Wilted and Falcon, which are relatively new to the local scene, will be performing at Poxx Bar, Paceville, on Friday 27 July, and have put together a delightful selection of bluesy-rock tunes that will go down well with rockers of all ages. Doors will be open at 10pm and each band will have around 45 minutes each to rock the house. Tickets will be Lm2.50 (€5.82) each at the door and will include a complimentary drink at the bar.

Something about each band

Sublime is the band behind the successful Strummin’ Home and Akustika concerts, and plays a variety of bluesy-rock standards with a couple of originals thrown in for good measure.

With a female lead singer, Sublime manages to combine the rawness of an improvised rocking sound with more delicate jazzy textures.

Wilted has been together for almost two years, and has seen a lot of changes in terms of line-up and style.

They have now settled on a peculiar amalgam of blues, jazz and rock, which see the band combining classic rock standards with their more bluesy originals.

Falcon was also formed around two years ago and plays a mixture of covers and originals with the classic rock sound, which includes songs by timeless bands such as Free, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Credence Clearwater Revival.

Last December, Falcon won the Rocking Skirmish held at Luxol.
