Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett yesterday filed two libel cases in court, one against the Malta Labour Party and another against party leader Alfred Sant over allegations they made about him.

The first libel suit was filed against MLP president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and MLP secretary general Jason Micallef, as the party’s representatives, over two adverts that appeared in the General Workers’ Union daily newspaper l-orizzont on 14 and 18 July.

Mr Mugilett claimed that the adverts contained unfounded allegations about him and were aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In his second libel case, Mr Mugliett said he felt libelled by what was said by Labour Leader Alfred Sant during a political activity in Qormi on 8 July. Even this, he said, was aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

He called on the court to find them guilty of libel and pay him damages. Dr Peter Fenech and Dr Rita Mifsud signed the writs.
