The New Choral Singers, under the direction of Robert Calleja, will present Songs for Summer, a concert of sacred music at St John of the Cross Parish Church, Ta’ Xbiex on Thursday at 7.30pm.

As indicated by the title, this concert heralds the arrival of summer, therefore the choir have selected a light and varied repertoire that is guaranteed to provide an evening of musical entertainment for audiences of all ages. The evening’s repertoire includes a selection of beautiful compositions that range from Schubert’s classical Ave Maria to the contemporary compositions of John Rutter. Adopting different formations, the choir will be accompanied on the pianoforte by Dr Romina Morrow, on the organ by John W. Aquilina, while a number of items will also be sung a cappella.

The repertoire includes a number of negro spirituals and all-time favourites such as Mozart’s Ave Verum, the Celtic Morning has Broken and the traditional African Siyahamba which will all contribute to making this an enjoyable evening.

Members of the general public are cordially invited to attend this concert which is being held in an air-conditioned venue, for the convenience and comfort of all in attendance. Entry to the concert is free of charge; however a retiring collection will be made after the concert.
