Staff training in the Medical Imaging Department at Mater Dei Hospital continued with a number of patients receiving the service at Mater Dei for the first time last week.

After receiving technical training on the imaging systems, staff in this department is now being trained on the clinical use of the equipment, which practically means imaging real (live) patients using the new high-tech digital imaging equipment.

Prior to these live clinical tests, the equipment had been tested and certified for clinical use.

Over the last week or so, eight live patients have been imaged at the Medical Imaging Department of Mater Dei.

Tests and training were carried out not only at a technical level but also at a clinical level with real (live) patients. The images produced were technically correct and of a very higher quality, superior and in digital format. All equipment has functioned as anticipated.

The images taken of these patients served their purpose as these were used in the real diagnosis of these eight patients.

“We have been very eager to use the new state-of-the-art equipment at Mater Dei. Our confidence levels are continuously increasing. We are now able to produce more in-depth imaging in a shorter timeframe of different medical conditions prevailing in patients,” said Joe Cassar, manager of Radiography Services.

There are more live patients scheduled for testing at the Mater Dei Medical Imaging Department for staff training purposes.
