Fraud Management bureau for Melita Cable

Subex Azure, a provider of operational support system solutions to telecom operators, has won a lucrative contract to set up a fraud management bureau for Melita Cable, the primary cable television and Internet service provider in Malta.

As the first triple-play (Internet, TV and telephony) operator in Malta catering to about 100,000 subscribers, Melita is deploying Subex’s flagship product to protect its revenues and expand services, the Bangalore-based firm said in a statement last Tuesday.

The fraud management bureau uses customised alarms and fingerprint patterns to identify likely fraudulent usage, enabling operators to detect known fraud types and patterns of unusual behaviour in wire line (PSTN, ISP, VOIP), wireless (2G, 2.5G, 3G) and across all services such as post-paid, prepaid and mobile-commerce.

“Our fraud management bureau deployed at United Pan-European Communications convinced Melita the benefits of the product in revenue maximisation and fraud prevention,” Subex president Saul Nurtman said, but did not mention the value of the contract.

Melita’s manager for IT and data services George Galea said Subex’s product would enable the operator to detect frauds and manage its growing network traffic volume cost-effectively.
