MHRA Vs Air Malta

Malta Independent Sunday, 22 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr M. Galea

I refer to Noel Grima’s article “14% increase in July tourism figures but great doubts about winter season” (TMIS, 15 July).

Mr Zammit Tabona had attacked the government on several occasions for not doing enough to bring low cost carriers (LCC) to Malta. Now that LCCs are here and Air Malta is trimming down on loss making routes due to reduced passenger load, Mr Zammit Tabona is complaining.

What does he expect, that Air Malta operate the way he likes in order to keep his community happy? I suggest Mr Zammit Tabona takes care of his business. He should have predicted that with the arrival of LCCs, Air Malta would have to start thinking commercially, as till now some routes were operated at a loss just to keep the community happy.

Besides suggesting what Air Malta should do, I suggest MHRA contact Mike O’Leary and tell him what to do. Maybe he’ll take you for a ride.
