A Morris Marina that was parked in St Nicholas Street in Valletta caught fire early yesterday morning, the police said in a statement.

The police received information about the fire at about 3.30am. Members of the Civil Protection Department who rushed to the scene to control the fire evacuated some nearby residents from their homes as a precautionary measure.

Nobody was injured, but the fire damaged the façades of some buildings in the area as well as a motorbike parked nearby.

The police are carrying out an investigation into the case.
