The Nationalist Party did not keep its word about the constitutional amendments to the electoral law, Malta Labour Party deputy leader Michael Falzon told a public dialogue meeting on Sunday.

Dr Falzon was referring to an agreement between the Malta Labour Party and the Nationalist Party last November.

He pointed out that the government had to present the amendments in parliament before it rose for the summer recess but it did not do so seven months after the agreement was reached.

The agreement, reached on 12 November, stipulated that the electoral districts would remain unchanged before the next general election – with the exception that Gozo would go back to being a single electoral district.

The amendments also proposed that the proportion of seats in parliament would reflect the proportion of votes.
