Leader Of the opposition is twisting the facts - Ministry

Malta Independent Tuesday, 24 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The leader of the opposition was conveniently corrupting the truth and twisting facts as it suited him though he has been convincingly contradicted about his manner of interpreting the facts to his political advantage, the Urban Development and Roads Ministry said.

It said Minister Jesmond Mugliett had already sued the leader of the opposition for libel, accusing him of lying. The minister was again denying the accusations being made against him.

The leader of the opposition was also unashamedly showing disrespect for legal procedures, not only in the light of two libel suits the minister had presented against the leader and his party, but also in the light of another suit for libel that the minister presented against the leader of the opposition. The latter was filed after the leader of the opposition alleged that projects and road building were falling back because there were people who were profiting from this.

The ministry denied that Civil Aviation Avenue had to be re-dug for more works. Neither was it true that St Paul’s Bay by-pass had also been dug up again. Supporting works will need to be carried out on a small section of the by-pass and final preparations were in hand. The work would be done at the cost of the contractor. As for Friday’s closure of the by-pass, that had not been authorised and the transport authority had re-opened the by-pass some hours after it learned of it.
