Malta won another medal yesterday thanks to Monalisa Camilleri who finished second in the 1,500m, clocking 4 minutes and 50 seconds.
It was the best time ever for the Maltese young athlete who thus won her second medal at these Games.
Camilleri said that she was very happy with the result and added she hoped to better her time for the event in the near future.
In the 1,500m for boys, Karl Camilleri finished fifth in a time of 4:43.33 while Edward Bonello was sixth in 4:43.48.
Julian Borg had a jump of 1.65m in the High Jump event. In the women's sector, Maria Sciberras took part in the 100m girls final but finished sixth in a time of 13.35 seconds. Andrew Cassar Torreggiani took part in the 100m final for boys but finished fifth in a time of 11.57 seconds. Ezekiel Micallef was just behind him in 11.74 seconds. The latter has also qualified for the 200m final which is to be held today.
In basketball, the Maltese girls beat Spain B 59-50 - their first victory at these Games - in the match for 5th and 6th place. At the end of the first session, the score was 29-26 in favour of the Maltese.
Rebecca Naudi was best scorer for Malta with 23 points. Jean Doughty had 13, Leanne Sciberras eight and Kristie Tonna seven.
Today the Maltese girls face a difficult tie against Spain A who are within striking distance of a medal.
In handball, the Maltese boys lost 31-19 against Portugal, but Joe Tanti's boys emerged with their heads held high after playing one of their best matches in the tournament.
Malta's scorers were Peter Naudi 5, Damian Gargano 4, Mihajlo Savic 4, Mark Borg 3, Lyden Zerafa, Luca Giuiano and Josef Camilleri one goal each.
The Maltese boys meet their Austrian counterparts today, the last day of the Games which will come to an end with the Closing Ceremony.
Also in action today will be the Maltese swimmers in the teams events as well as table-tennis players Jessica Pace, Andrew Gambina, James Dawson and Daniel Portelli who are under the charge of David Pace. Yesterday they took part in the Singles event.
