Malta Independent Thursday, 26 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Malta International Airport’s Meteorological Office has satisfied the common requirements applicable for the provision of Meteorological Services and has been awarded an ISO 9001 2000 certification issued by Moody International. The Met Office has also been certified as the air navigation services provider of meteorological services in Malta for a period of six years. In this respect, the Met Office will be the only air navigation service provider in Malta and the Malta Flight Information Region.

During the presentation of the certificate, Moody International country manager Paul Cardona congratulated the Meteorological Office of Malta International Airport on their successful completion of the certification process and for achieving the accredited certification with Moody International Certification.

“The ISO9000 family of quality management standards and guidelines has earned a global reputation as the basis for establishing quality management systems. All of its elements are designed to help companies maintain high standards over a prolonged period. It is widely acknowledged that proper quality management improves business, often having a positive effect on investment, market share, sales growth, sales margins, competitive advantage, and avoidance of litigation,” Mr Cardona said.

MIA CEO Peter Bolech said that the certification not only satisfied the EU’s regulations on Meteorological Services, but also recognised MIA’s investment in both equipment and human resources to provide a professional service. “As the only air navigation service provider, it is vital for us to provide a reliable weather service, since the safety and security of aircraft is at stake. We have gone beyond our remit and also provide the service to the public. I must emphasise the professional attitude of our weather forecasters, whose commitment ensures that our weather services are indeed efficient and reliable”.
