Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club will be organising their annual Gozo to Malta Open Sea Channel Swim on Saturday, 25 August at 8am.
Besides being a race in itself, Birkirkara St Joseph organises this event for the benefit of those people who would like to take up the challenge.
Open sea long distance swimming events are synonymous with Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club, having in the past organised the round Malta swim twice, Gozo to Marsascala twice, round Gozo twice, round Comino and an annual series of open sea two km swims.
Following a successful re-routing of the race last year, the club will again hold the race from Ras il-Qala, next to il-Gebla tal-Halfa, to Marfa on a distance of 5.5 kilometres. All the participating swimmers will be accompanied by a boat throughout the whole event. The race route will be closed for maritime traffic for the duration of the race.
Entry forms should be forwarded to Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club by not later than 18 August.
A meeting for all race applicants will be held on Wednesday, 22 August at the Cottonera Sports Complex at 7pm. Further information on the club’s website www.bkarastjoseph.com or on telephone numbers 99466256 and 79839391.
