The number of people registered unemployed in June stood at 6,337, down by 724 compared to June 2006.

The data indicate that while there was a fall in the number of registered unemployed under Part 1, there was an increase in the number under Part 2.

In fact, the number of people registering for work under Part 1 fell by 900, but those registering under Part 2 had risen by 176.

In the 12 months to June 2007, all the age groups showed a reduction in the number of registered unemployed. The only exception to this trend was the age group of males aged 45 and over. – there was actually an increase of 33 in this category.

From a regional perspective, the number of registered unemployed people in Gozo remained stable compared to June 2006, whereas in Malta the number had fallen by 730. Taking into account Part 1 only of the unemployment registers, both Malta and Gozo reported a reduction in the number of registrants.

Among men, the most commonly sought occupations were related to elementary duties, services and trades, whereas women tended to seek jobs that were clerical or service-oriented.
