As his forthcoming major solo show at St James Cavalier is drawing closer, expressionist artist James Vella Clark has chosen to treat the public to an intimate and interesting collection of drawings and studies.

This collection, named Recent Drawings and Studies will be shown at B’Art Gallery at 39 Amery Street in Sliema throughout August.

“I have been toying with the idea of showing some of my studies and drawings for a long time. People know me for my landscapes and more recently, for my abstract works but few know this other side of me. Now, this opportunity came up and I want to use the intimate space offered by B’Art Gallery to show an intimate side of my art.

Alongside these drawings, which also include a few self-portraits, I will also be showing a few small paintings that reflect the type of work that I will be presenting at my forthcoming exhibition at St James Cavalier this coming November,” says James Vella Clark.

Since his last one-man show almost three years ago, James has seen his art change drastically. Some of the works in this exhibition will attest to this shift in style.

“Many are commenting about my use of more subdued colours that are now a principle feature in most of my more recent works, especially the use of blacks, whites and greys. This is part of the process of my evolution as an artist but also in line with the experiences that are moulding me both as an artist, and as a person.”

The exhibition opens on Friday and remains open till the end of the same month.
