A man’s six-month jail term was reduced to a probation order on appeal yesterday, after the Court of Criminal Appeal found that the man worked hard to fight his drug habit.

Johan Mifsud was put on probation for a period of three years, during which time he must carry out community work.

He had pleaded guilty to committing a theft from a vehicle in Fgura almost three years ago and had been jailed for six months.

The appellant’s lawyer told the court that he was now “clean” and the fact that his partner had a child had a positive effect on him.

The court therefore noted that the man worked hard on his drug problem and he is now a more responsible person.

The court was presided over by Mr Justice David Scicluna.
