Malta Independent Saturday, 28 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

When the annual general meeting is held today at the Centenary Hall, Ta’ Qali, the main attention will focus on the elections for the top posts, especially the top job of president.

Here, former Malta Football Association treasurer Norman Darmanin Demajo, is contesting current president Dr Joseph Mifsud.

Three years ago, Mifsud was contested by former Valletta FC president Joe Caruana Curran, but he retained his post after emerging a clear winner.

Today, Darmanin Demajo will be hoping to get the required amount of votes to get back into Maltese football after an absence of six years.

Just over 100 delegates will be eligible to vote in this election. The general meeting is to start at 9.30am.

Meanwhile, another keenly contested election should be that for the three vice-presidents’ posts. There will be eight persons who will be contesting these posts, among them the current two vice-presidents Carmel Bartolo and Ludovico Micallef.

The others are Alex Manfre, who is also contesting for the post of treasurer – a post which he currently occupies – Joe Hedley, an MFA employee, Dr Peter Fenech, former national coach Pippo Psaila, Michael Cutajar, of St George’s FC and Bjorn Vassallo of San Gwann FC.

One of the former three vice-presidents, John Farrugia, is not contesting the election.

He had suspended himself from the post last month after being investigated by the police in a case involving the Malta Maritime Authority.
