The furore raised by the disclosures connected with the conviction of two ADT officials of corruption by the Courts of Justice and the subsequent termination of their employment by the Transport Authority, should not make us lose sight of the highly commendable conduct of the CEO, Gianfranco Selvaggi.

It was his integrity and moral courage that led to the whole squalid business being brought to light. He has done what plain honesty dictates he should have done, namely resign his salaried post, as he could not go on serving the public and his minister in the circumstances.

The country is indebted to him for his exemplary behaviour. Confidence in the administration would be encouraged should it try to keep Mr Selvaggi in the public service by offering him a suitable alternative post.
