Fireworks Victims

Malta Independent Sunday, 29 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Mr Bonello, the sole survivor of the St Helen’s fireworks factory explosion, speaks of his friends as heroes. I am very sorry for the loss of lives but they knew the score.

How about the residents in the area who were quietly at home minding their own business? Thank God my daughter was out with her four-month-old baby. The glass door of her room was shattered and the cot full of shards of glass, besides the football-size stones and fireworks containers that were strewn all over the garden. Had they been there they would have been killed instantly or badly injured.

Mr Bonello speaks of compensation to the nearest fireworks factory. Is he also thinking of compensation for all the residents in the vicinity? What if innocent lives were lost? How can he compensate that?

If these people are so courageous to continue with their hobby, let them walk/move far away from any residence to pursue their pastime.
