This competition, which was once again sponsored by Island Beverages Co. Ltd, is now almost concluded, with only a few fixtures remaining to be played.
The event was made up of ten different divisions, which were distinguished as follows: five Men’s Singles and two Ladies’ Singles as well as three Doubles divisions.
Most of these divisions have now drawn to their close and emitted their respective final verdicts.
In the Men’s Singles section, the first division title was won by Boris Lalov (Msida Arrows BC) who finished his commitments undefeated, with four wins and two draws from his six matches, giving him a total of 10 points. The runner-up spot was taken by Stefan Salomone (B’Kara BC), who ended up three points adrift of the leader.
In the Ladies’ Singles section, the first division title was taken by Didi Rasamayii (Pawla Wolves BC) who similarly topped the table undefeated with the maximum 16 points from her eight matches. She was followed by Maria Borg (B’Kara), who ended with 9 points to her credit.
Rodney Abela (Pawla Wolves) and Brian Zammit (B’Kara) are the provisional leaders of the Second Division, where several fixtures remain to be played.
The equivalent Second Division Ladies’ Singles title was taken by Juliet Gatt, who topped the table undefeated with 10 points from five matches. She was followed by team mate Grace Saliba, whose only defeat in this division was against the title winner. Both contestants play for Shuttles BC.
Mark Briffa (Shuttles BC) won the Third Division title with nine points, having preserved his unbeaten record with four wins and a draw to his credit. The race for the runner-up berth, which is presently in the hands of Ivan Salomone (B’Kara) who has 6 points, is still open. Martin Camilleri (Pawla Wolves), who trails Salomone by a single point, can overtake him if he wins his remaining fixture.
David Chua made the Fourth Division title his own. He similarly preserved his unbeaten status at the end of the six matches played, totalling 11 out of a maximum of 12 points. Team mate Franz Vella was second, with eight points to his credit. Both players are on the books of Pawla Wolves BC.
Stephen Serracino Inglott made off with the Fifth Division title, having remained unbeaten throughout, securing the maximum 16 points from eight matches. Team mate Stephen Hall was second, four points behind. Both players are registered with Msida Arrows BC.
In the Doubles section, all three divisions are in their final phase, with some fixtures still left to be played.
Kenneth Vell /David Cole (Pawla Wolves) provisionally head the First Division while Avner Vella/Samuel Cali (B’Kara) top the Second Division jointly with team mates Ivan Salomone/Alfred Polidano.
Franz Vella/David Chua (Pawla Wolves) provisionally top the Third Division, with the maximum eight points from four matches. Mario Pirotta/Chris Camenzuli (Msida Arrows) follow, two points behind.
