Labour MP Jose Herrera filed a judicial protest yesterday against a journalist, a minister and the Malta Maritime Authority over a series of articles and news items broadcast in recent weeks.

The judicial protest was filed against NET News journalist Keith Demicoli, Competitiveness and Communications Minister Censu Galea and the MMA.

In his protest, Dr Herrera explained that around two weeks ago, Mr Demicoli rang him on his mobile and, without telling him that he was being recorded, asked him a number of personal questions, including about the exam for which he sat to obtain a maritime licence.

Dr Herrera said that Mr Demicoli mentioned certain confidential details that he could only have obtained through the MMA.

Dr Herrera called on the minister and the MMA to investigate how the journalist had obtained such confidential information about his personal life and warned that he was holding them responsible for damages.

Dr Edward Zammit Lewis signed the writ.
