On Saturday Marsa CC took on Krishna CC in the final game of the Globalair Summer League. The winner of the game will win the league.

Krishna won the toss and elected to bat. Frank Spiteri and Nowell Khosla opened the batting and made an impressive 135 run opening partnership which was ended by a caught and bowled effort by Mike Caruana.

Spiteri, being the victim, had made 61 runs from 44 balls including eight fours hit one straight back at the bowler which travelled no more than an inch above the ground.

Next wicket to fall was that of Nadeem Ashraf who made 15 runs from nine balls faced including one huge six. Khosla was the last man out being stumped of the last ball of the innings. Khosla, who had had a quiet league with the bat, made a match winning score of 95 runs from 63 balls faced, including eight fours and one big six. Krishna CC totalled 192 runs from their allotted overs. Caruana was the main wicket taker for Marsa with two wickets.

Marsa’s reply commenced badly losing Javed Shah in the first over for three runs. Sunny Krishna and Ronnie Sacco then put on a 90 run partnership before Sunny was run out for 31 runs from 25 balls faced including one six.

Sacco went on to top score for Marsa with 64 runs from 55 balls faced. Robert Krishna scored 11 runs and Mike Caruana 18 runs not out. It was not enough and Marsa could only manage 152 runs from their allotted overs.

Nadeem Ashraf was Krishna’s main wicket taker with two wickets. Krishna wins the game and wins the summer league for the first time since 2004. Past winners, 2006 - Marsa CC, 2005 - Marsa CC, 2004 - Melita CC.

Next Saturday will see the first of two 50 over games between the Malta select XI against the rest to prepare the national side for the European division three championships which will be held in Belgium in August.
