Malta Independent Wednesday, 1 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A pre-season Referees’ Seminar will again be held this year at the Conference Hall, Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali between tomorrow and Saturday.

This annual event, organised by the MFA Referees Board, under the auspices of UEFA, will this year be conducted by David Elleray, a member of UEFA Referees’ Committee and an ex-FIFA International referee who had a distinguished career as a football referee in England.

The subjects covered in the seminar will be:

1. Referee’s Personality

2. Management of Free-Kick Situations

3. Determining Offside

4. Consistency in Sanctioning Unsporting Behaviour

5. Reading the Game - Positioning

6. Communication between Officials

MFA President Dr Joe Mifsud will open the seminar tomorrow at 6pm at the Conference Hall of the Technical Centre, Ta’ Qali, with an address to the participants, including match inspectors who are invited to attend all sessions of the seminar.

Tom A. Restall, Head, Referees Department of the MFA will introduce the seminar which will include workshops, group reports in Plenary sessions and concluding questions.

Such an activity is very useful towards keeping referees and assistant referees adjourned on the latest developments in the refereeing sector.
