Valletta secretary Anton Abela has confirmed that captain Gilbert Agius has decided to stay with the Citizens.
Earlier this month Gilbert Agius flew out to Sweden on a trial with second division club Enkopings SK.
The Swedish club showed great interest in signing him until the end of their domestic season and Agius also extended his trial to another week. However, news on the club’s official website appearing yesterday confirmed that Agius wants to stay with Valletta.
Last June Gilbert Agius became the first player to win the MFA Player of the year three times.
Pre-season friendlies
The new surface at the Centenary Stadium will house four more Valletta FC pre-season friendlies (they would have played five after yesterday evening’s match against Marsaxlokk).
The programme of matches is the following:
Tomorrow v. Birkirkara; 6 August v. Hamrun S. ; 8 August v. Mqabba and 10 August v. Msida.
All the matches are to kick off at 6.15pm.
Meanwhile yesterday the highly favoured Citizens beat champions Marsaxlokk 4-1. Stefan Giglio scored twice, with Monesterolo and Falzon getting the other goals
