The organisers of the concert which featured world-renowned tenor Joseph Calleja and his wife, soprano Tatiana Lisnic, yesterday categorically denied allegations that they breached a contract they signed with the singers, adding that it was them who breached the contract when they asked for an extra 30 per cent in their payment for the concert.

Renaissance Productions Ltd yesterday filed their reply to a judicial protest filed earlier this week by the tenor and his wife who gave a concert in Mdina on 7 July.

The concert organisers said it was holding the couple responsible for damages caused by misinformation to the public.

They said they signed a contract with the singers in December last year which included, among other things, the payment which was due to Mr Calleja and Ms Lisnic for participating in the concert.

The organisers said that on 10 April, even before the actual concert, the couple sent an email asking for an extra 30 per cent to what had been agreed. They also warned that if the organisers did not agree to pay more, they would stop future collaboration with Renaissance Productions Ltd.

In its reply to the email, the organisers said that they did not want to continue collaborating with them because what they had done was unprofessional and illegal.

RPL also referred to the clause which gave them to right to broadcast twice the footage of the concert on PBS, the national television station.

The organisers held the singers responsible for damages.
