The Cana Movement and Caritas Malta, together with the Diocesan Committee for the Family have been working on a project called A Healthy Marriage.
The project aims at instilling a reflection on what the Maltese church, the state and society are doing to encourage a healthy family and what else can be done in this regard.
It provides for a number of activities, such as research that is being conducted by Discern Institute and a national conference to discuss the results of that research, which will be held on Saturday, 27 October.
Various meetings with the media and university students and staff will be held in preparation for the conference.
The keynote speaker will be Dr Samantha Callan, a research consultant for a good number of large family-friendly NGOs in Britain and a Fellow Honorary Research at the University of Edinburgh.
She also delivered the introductory keynote speech at the Institute of World Concerns and leads the research team Letsdolife.
Although she is not a Catholic, Dr Callan has been appointed by the British bishops to the Committee for Marriage and Family Life and led a commission that drafted a report called Breakdown Britain on behalf of the Conservative Party. She was also involved with a report published last month called Breakthrough Britain.
The Cana Movement and Caritas Malta said this information was being publicised at an early date in order to encourage society to discuss the subject and participate in the conference.
