Artist Vince Briffa is showing a video and audio installation entitled Body of Glass – After Caravaggio at the cellars of the Auberge d’Italie up to 19 August. The work forms part of Caravaggio – quote… unquote, an exhibition of contemporary art by five artists in five spaces curated by Dr Keith Sciberras and coordinated by Davinia Galea. The exhibition forms part of this year’s Malta Arts Festival.

Body of Glass – After Caravaggio is a work that addresses the body as being simultaneously the object and the subject of experience. Echoing Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro idiom in its overall aesthetic, this video work conceives the human body as being both the performer and the object being performed upon, capable of simultaneously providing and being the locus of spectacle, where gesture and action translate into textural, rhythmic sounds and resonant structures. The work therefore concerns the human flesh and its reaction to harassment set in the contrasts of light and shade.

The exhibition is open between Monday and Saturday during mornings and is free of charge.
