Old vehicles were on display as part of the Bank of Valletta Streets

Valletta Storika, held last Friday, marked the third week of this year’s edition of BOV Streets Alive.

Valletta’s Palace Square went back to the years of World War Two with re-enactments of wartime Malta coupled with a display of military vehicles from that era. As expected, the Malta Police Precision Drill Team, under the command of Inspector Stephen Mallia, gave a fascinating and thrilling 10-minute performance in a 21-men formation, all selected from the various sections of the force.

Suggestive war tunes like Colonel Bogey, Glenn Miller’s Swing the Mood as well as Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory were played by the Armed Forces of Malta Band.

Meanwhile, Freedom Square hosted a display of classic cars while the old Opera House site entertained a full-house concert by Paul Abela’s nine-piece band. The evocative ruins of Royal Opera House emanated popular pre-war tunes such as Lili Marlene and We will meet again. Paul Abela’s musical repertoire also featured a number of old Neapolitan songs. Singers with the band include Julie James, Joe Cutajar and Georgina.
