Bank of Valletta is extending its support to Movie Spectacular – a concert which the Pure Brass Quintet is organising at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta. Scheduled for Wednesday, this concert will feature popular pieces from the most renowned blockbuster movies of all time.
The bank’s sponsorship was presented by Michael Galea, head of marketing and communication at Bank of Valletta during a rehearsal for the concert. “Bank of Valletta is at the forefront in supporting cultural initiatives through its extensive community programme,” said Mr Galea. “We are proud to be associated with yet another cultural event that is being organised this summer featuring Maltese musicians,” he added.
“The main aim of the quintet is to promote the appreciation and enjoyment of brass music,” said Mr Bezzina while thanking Bank of Valletta for its support. “With the help of lighting, props and visuals on two big screens, we hope that this musical initiative will be an unforgettable audio-visual experience for the audience present,” concluded Mr Bezzina.
This musical event, presented by the Pure Brass Quintet under the direction of Kevin Abela, and supported by a full percussion section and piano will feature themes from movies like Mission Impossible, Gladiator, Rocky, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and The Godfather. One of the highlights of this event will be the participation of Mr Sigmund Mifsud, who will be playing as soloist in For a Fistful of Dollars by world-famous composer Ennio Morricone.
The members of the quintet are Kevin Abela and Reno Cassar on the trumpet, Alex Bezzina on the flugel horn, Jesmond Azzopardi on the trombone and Christopher Spiteri on tuba.
They are all very well-known established musicians on the local scene, two of them being full-time musicians with the Orkestra Nazzjonali.
The quintet will be enhanced with the participation of three of Malta’s leading percussionists – Joe “Bibi” Camilleri, Daniel Cauchi and Carl Matthew Camilleri – and Charlene Farrugia on the piano.
