Labour MP Leo Brincat has accused the Prime Minister of promising Maltese emigrants in Australia two of the proposals the Malta Labour Party has drawn up as part of its plan for when it is in government. In a statement, Mr Brincat said that in one of its plans, the MLP had proposed the strengthening of the Maltese language in countries such as Australia, where many Maltese lived.

The MLP had also proposed the setting up of a special unit within the Foreign Affairs Ministry so that Information and Communication Technology could be better used for the Maltese abroad to remain in contact with their native land.

Mr Brincat said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi promised exactly the same things to the emigrants in Australia and criticised him and the government for first saying that the MLP’s proposals were futile and recycled and then used them.

He said this showed that the MLP proposals were truly good and fresh ideas and that only the MLP could give Malta the much-needed breath of fresh air.
