Birkirkara SJ triathletes William Brydon and Mario Bugeja have recently participated in the Karnten Ironman of Austria for the second year running. The Ironman consists of a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle and a 42 km marathon.
Brydon finished the swim in 1 hour 37 seconds, cycled the 180 km in 6 hours 29 minutes 45 seconds and ran the marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes 19 seconds to finish the triathlon in 12 hours 28 minutes 10 seconds. Brydon improved his time from last year by two hours 45 minutes.
Mario Bugeja also improved on last year. His swim lasted one hour 7 minutes and 32 seconds and cycled the distance in seven hours seven minutes and 44 seconds. His 5 hours 3 minutes 6 seconds marathon run, accumulated a finishing time of 13 hours 36 minutes 55 seconds, 54 minutes faster than the time he clocked last year.
Belgium’s Marino Vanhoenacker won the race in 8 hours 6 minutes 41 seconds. The first female was Italian Edith Niederfriniger in 9 hours 8 minutes 47 seconds. 2,200 triathletes took part in this race.
