Patrols In Bahrija

Malta Independent Thursday, 9 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority is setting up patrols in Bahrija following recent fires there, aiming to reduce the possibility of a recurrence of such fires and, in the event that they do start, to ensure as timely an intervention as possible.

The destruction caused by fires lit through carelessness can wreak havoc on endemic flora and fauna, the authority said.

The public is encouraged to call the Mepa emergency numbers (outside office hours) in the event of illegal development and environmental damage.

Illegal development: Malta: 9926-9926; Gozo: 9924-9924;

Environment: Nature Protection: 7949-6320; Pollution Control: 9921-9991.
