Volunteers working with various societies in Cospicua spoke about the area’s problems when they discussed the subject with representatives of the Labour Party, which was following up its consultations on regional development for the Grand Harbour area.

Opportunities could be created by exploiting the town’s potential, it was said. In spite of what Cospicua could offer, especially in historical heritage, tourism to the area did not exist. In this context it was pointed out that action needed to be taken to develop the area around dock one.

There were no sporting facilities in Cospicua either, and the cultural heritage, especially that related to the church, was deteriorating badly and not appreciated, because there was no money for its upkeep.

There were also social problems and it was pointed out that while until a few years ago Cospicua primary school was one of the best in the Cottonera area, things were not the same today. Party leader Alfred Sant said the Grand Harbour had a lot to offer to the country and the party was drawing up a social and economic development plan to meet the needs of all the communities around Grand Harbour.
