The Labour Party’s spokesman for IT, Leo Brincat yesterday vehemently denied that the Malta Labour Party had any hidden interest to procrastinate the tendering process for the leasing of personal computers and laptops and workstation support services for Maltese schools and teachers, saying its only interest was that the tender conditions ensured a level playing field.

In a statement, Mr Brincat referred to comments made by Investment, Industry and Information Technology Minister Austin Gatt who alleged that the MLP was conspiring with a few importers who were taking advantage of this procrastination.

Mr Brincat said this was a blatant lie, and added that the MLP had no interest in who won the tender but just wanted to ensure that the tender conditions made it accessible to everyone, including small businesses.

He said that since a general election was just round the corner, a Labour government would revise this tender once in office.
