The first edition of the Basketball Academy Vamp Radivoj Korac which is running between the 16th of July and 12th of August is coming to a close.

In his comments, Dalibor Mijatovic, who is the founder of this academy and is helped administratively by Adrian Mifsud, said that the main goal of the camp was to provide further education and training to all basketball players (both male and female over the age of 12).

The camp also included the participation of Bosnian coach Davor Crnic, dubbed by Mijatovic as one of the best coaches from ex-Yugoslavia.

It is common trait that the hours of team practice are limited and sometimes not enough to exploit the talent of a number of players. Thus, in order to try and bridge the gap, Mijatovic proposed the concept of individual sessions done within an independent setting with no connection to any particular club even though in the long run the player’s own club will also end up gaining together with the player.

The set-up for the academy was not just practice but also included elements of competition with prizes.

In fact, last Saturday I was invited by Mr. Mijatovic to present some of the week’s prizes. Present and also invited by the camp’s organizers was the president of the Malta Basketball Association, Mag. Antonio Mizzi who gave his support to this venture before handing out further prizes won by many of the participants which numbered over 40 according to Mr. Adrian Mifsud who was satisfied by this turnout.

On the future, both Mijatovic and Mifsud believe that people will eventually see the seriousness that was undertaken in the academy and hope to build on the success and move the academy, in the coming years, to an international level, thus bringing the local game closer to a top European perspective.
