I refer to the article titled “Tuna ranching said to be involved with Mafia, illegal immigrant trafficking” (TMIS, 5 August). I am writing to clarify what was written about Joe Caruana and myself in Andrew Malone’s article and cited by your newspaper.

The quotes in your article taken from Andrew Malone’s original article in the Daily Mail have been fabricated.

I never mentioned that tuna are illegally caught, or that one captain killed 120 tonnes of tuna illegally for that matter, at any stage in our interview.

Although I do not know the source of this information, I seriously doubt its authenticity.

If one reads the original article, it can easily be seen that in most cases there is little evidence to back the allegations he makes against the industry.
