The committee against the proposed re-development of the Sant’ Antnin waste recycling plant has asked Rural Affairs and Environment Minister George Pullicino to set up an independent enquiry board to investigate the dumping of animal carcasses at the site.

The committee described the dumping as abusive and unpardonable and asked the minister to investigate WasteServ which is publicly funded and falls under his responsibility.

Had it not been for the media that uncovered the case, said the committee, the practice would have gone unnoticed, to the detriment of the people who live just a stone’s throw away. It also insisted that by dumping animal carcasses at Sant’ Antnin, WasteServe was breaching the Malta Environment and Planning Authority’s permits and sanitary and civil laws.

The committee wrote also to Opposition Leader Alfred Sant asking him to support their plea.
