Pembroke Football Nursery places third in Welsh Super Cup

Malta Independent Tuesday, 14 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Pembroke Nursery recently took part in the Welsh Super Cup tournament (formerly known as the Ian Rush tournament) where it obtained a creditable third placing.

At the event, held in Aberystwyth, the Pembroke Nursery played with its Under 11 Age Group team composed of 12 boys and one girl.

The bad weather did not hinder the children from scoring two wins, featuring in two draws and losing two matches to finish third in the eight-a-side category.

The experience gained against tough British opponents under difficult conditions, will prove beneficial to the kids in future.

In the 11-a-side category, Pembroke and Melita took part in an experimental participation – a first for both Nurseries – as local rivalry was forgotten for a whole week.

The combined team played very attractive and efficient football. Other Maltese clubs took part in this tournament in different age groups with very good results.

The group, which included 14 adults (officials, coaches and parents), also found time to tour the magnificent sites of the area, particularly the train ride to the top of the mountain.

Vodafone Malta Foundation funded part of the Nursery’s trip to Wales.

The Pembroke Nursery advises everyone that registration forms for children for season 2007/08 are available at the Pembroke Athletic Sports Club after 7pm.
