The main square in Mellieha will be the venue for an event in honour of Sammy Bartolo, synonymous with Maltese music, to mark his 60th birthday.

This year is the 10th anniversary of his death and on Saturday evening, his birthday, the Ghaqda Dilettanti tan-Nar Marija Bambina Mellieha is organising an event in his honour. Sammy Bartolo, the singer of the well-known song Il-Bajja tal-Mellieha, was born and lived in Mellieha.

Honouring Sammy by singing several of his songs will be a number of well-known singers, including Freddie Portelli, Giorgina, Joe S.Grech – who formed part of the group New Cuorey, Anthony Camilleri, Steve Cole and Anabelle, as well as Charlotte and Luisana, Sammy Bartolo’s daughters.
