GFI Software Makes strategic technology acquisition

Malta Independent Saturday, 18 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

GFI Software, an international developer of network security, content security and messaging software, announced on Thursday a strategic technology acquisition that will allow the company to achieve a steeper growth curve in the expanding email archiving market.

This technology will allow GFI to extend the functionality of its email archiving solution, GFI MailArchiver, and to service a much larger customer base.

GFI MailArchiver is one of the leading email archiving products on the market, giving small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers excellent performance at a price that takes into consideration the average SMB’s limited IT budget.

Through the acquisition of XEmplifyIT’s technology, GFI will now be in a position to service a much larger customer base and offer additional functionality – such as the migration of cumbersome PST files into GFI MailArchiver and auditing – without raising the price proportionally.

The email archiving market is experiencing rapid growth for various reasons. Companies need to greatly reduce the amount of space required to store emails as well as reduce their reliance on PST files. They need to ensure the central archiving of all company email, and they have to meet strict and varied compliance regulations, such as Sarbanes-Oxley in the US.

By 2008, approximately 75 per cent of US companies are expected to be using some form of archiving solution, up from 20 per cent in 2005. According to Osterman Research: “The growing use and importance of email and Instant Messaging means that more of these records are being transmitted through these messaging systems, increasing the importance of messaging archiving as a critical business function for most organisations.”

GFI believes that through this strategic technology acquisition, it will now offer scalability for 1,000+ mailboxes and keep the product’s total cost of ownership low

on larger installations.

Furthermore, it will allow GFI to continue to build on its position as a price-performance leader in this sector. By maintaining an unbeatable price-performance ratio, GFI MailArchiver is an affordable solution for the majority of SMBs who do not have extensive IT budgets – yet without compromising functionality or performance.

“According to Gartner, the email archiving market is estimated to grow to $921m by 2010. This strategic technology acquisition is part of our long-term strategy to use cutting-edge technology to constantly improve our product range and provide comprehensive and robust solutions to the SMB market,” said GFI chairman and CEO Curtis H. Staker.

“GFI MailArchiver is a

formidable solution and the technology we have acquired will strengthen our position as price-perform-ance leader and allow us to achieve a steeper growth curve in the expanding email archiving market,” he added.
