Don Ross, now 49 years old, will soon be launching a new club in Valletta which will be taking part in the Malta Basketball Association’s second division.
Valletta has not had a team since the 1970s and early 1980s, but new football club president Victor Sciriha recently said that one of his main projects would be that of introducing various other sports disciplines within the Valletta FC framework.
Ross, who has played for most of the local clubs since his arrival here in the early 1980s, and also starred for the national team till the 1990s, will be their player-coach. He has summoned a good group of players. He said: “It is my first season as player coach.
The boys I have are all down to earth in every day life and they all know exactly what they are capable of doing while playing. I feel it is a good opportunity to help a team and also the local game to continue growing.”
Last year Ross played for Floriana and helped them save their status in the top division, finishing as the second best scorer.
Ross is convinced that with the great support that Valletta BC will enjoy, they could make a big leap in local basketball in the next few years.
