Local Football: Malta U19 To take part in International Youth Tournament in Czech Republic

The Malta Under19 squad yesterday afternoon flew out to the Czech Republic where they will be taking part in the prestigious 14th International Youth Tournament.

This tournament will serve as very useful preparation for the more important commitments in the European U/19 Championship 2007/08 Qualifying Round in November. Malta is in a very tough Group with host country Italy, Croatia and Montenegro.

The Under 19 side will play Norway tomorrow (5pm) and then the Czech Republic on Wednesday. Malta’s third match is against Poland on Friday.

Head coach Edwin Camilleri, who is assisted by Charles Scerri and Ray Schembri, selected the following players for his squad:

Goalkeepers: Thomas Galea (Hibernians), Nicholas Vella (San Gwann).

Defenders: Steve Bonnici (Melita), Adrian Borg (Mosta), Owen Bugeja (Floriana), Kane Paul Farrugia (Sliema W.), Timothy Fleri Soler, Julian Tonna and Jonathan Scerri (all Hibernians).

Midfielders: Osbert Ellul (Hibernians), Daniel Gatt, Karl Pulo (Pieta H.), Beppe Muscat, Mark Scerri (Sliema W.)

Forwards: Nathan Busuttil, Glenville Goodlip, Miguel Ciantar, Dylon Kokavevssis (Pieta H.).

Mr Lawrence Ellul (MFA International Dept. Official) is the Head of Delegation and the Malta squad returns to Malta on Sunday evening.
