A 65-year-old Hungarian man died yesterday after finding himself in difficulty while swimming at St George’s Bay, St Julian’s, police said.

Preliminary investigations showed that the man was swimming in the bay at around 4pm, when for some reason, he found himself in difficulty.

The life guards immediately went to his rescue, brought him to shore and gave him first aid. However, the man passed away.

Duty Magistrate Miriam Hayman appointed various experts to conduct an inquiry. Police investigations are still under way.
