Two Bulgarian women are being held by Valletta district police in connection with cases of pick-pocketing which took place in the capital city, police said.

One of the cases was reported yesterday at noon by two German tourists who had just arrived in Malta on board a cruise liner. They reported that while they were in an establishment in Republic Street, they were robbed of a digital camera and a wallet which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

Another case was reported to the police by a Maltese man earlier this month. He had reported that while he was in a shop in Republic Street, his wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash, was stolen.

The Bulgarians being held by the police are aged around 20 years. They are to be arraigned in court in the coming days. Police investigations are still under way.
