In the final match of the group stage, Mgarr United defeated Kirkop United 2-0 with goals in the second half after an uneventful first period.

On the 59th minute, Kirkop’s defence were caught napping from a quick taken throw in and Chris Abela had no difficulty finding the net.

On 70th minute Alan Chetcuti’s corner on the first post was turned into his own goal by keeper Paulseph Cutajar.

Both sets of players created other scoring opportunities but the final score line remained 2-0 to Mgarr.

The tournament continues with matches for the final placings.

Tomorrow, Zurrieq face neighbours Kirkop U for 5/6th place.

The day after Marsa and Mgarr battle it out for 3/4th place and the surprise duo of Qrendi and Fgura will be contesting the final on Tuesday 28 August. All matches kick-off at 7.30pm.
