Enemalta Corporation yesterday issued a statement saying it apologises for the extensive power outages that took place throughout Malta yesterday.
The outages were caused by a major fault that occurred at Delimara Power Station at around 12:30pm as two gas turbines tripped.
As a result, electricity supply in various localities was affected, including Birzebbuga, Marsaxlokk, Zabbar Tarxien, Fgura in the south of the island and Swieqi, St Julian’s, Sliema, San Gwann, Balzan, Birkirkara and Santa Venera in the central area.
Enemalta engineers and duty personnel took immediate action and electricity to various localities from the central area was restored by 1:30pm.
All other localities had their power restored by 4pm.
Enemalta said an investigation is under way to locate the cause of the fault in order to be able to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Customers are reminded that they can report faults and power interruptions on the freephone number 8007-2224.
Enemalta said it regrets any inconvenience caused by this power interruption.
