Two Libyan men were arrested and are helping the police with their investigations after they were found in possession of 5,200 steroid pills.

In a statement, the Malta Customs said that on Tuesday evening, customs officers intercepted two Libyan nationals on their arrival from Tripoli.

The men were stopped as they were passing through the customs Green Channel because an x-ray image of their luggage showed that there were a number of empty containers.

The men were escorted to the search room but in their luggage customs officers found nothing. During a body search, the 5,200 pills were found.

The Malta Customs said the Medicines Authority has been asked to identify the pills and the authority confirmed the pills were steroids.

The men were handed over to the police for further investigations.
