Un-Christian Nuisance

Malta Independent Friday, 24 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

I’ll ask you, as if there is not enough uncontrolled noise from every source, be it building industry, traffic, language students and God knows what else – do we need more?

One big nuisance could certainly be controlled, and this falls under the authority of the church.

It is the Curia that gives its approval of each local festa whether it may be held or not.

So either our smiley Bishop is ignoring what the people have been complaining about, regarding the horrendous noise of petards fired inconsiderately at any time of the day or night – or else the three monkeys are a fine role model.

Needless to blame our politicians as they have votes to look after, neither the police who are doing their best within the law. So who else is going to stop this offensive unchristian nuisance.

If the Curia would decide to allow celebrations to be held only on condition of stopping the firing of these petards, everyone might enjoy some peace.
