The all-female theatre group Dù has been invited to participate in Cifet, the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre, next month. Their play entitled Lacuna, which they premiered in December 2006 and reprised at the Notte Gozitana last May, will be one of many performances by various theatre companies from other countries.

The Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre, now in its 19th year, offers visitors a chance to take their pick from a wide and varied programme that makes use of the city’s many great outdoor locations and venues.

Lacuna, written by Simone Spiteri and inspired by selected writings from Sepja, a series of short novels published last May by Trevor Zahra, weaves a story of four women who have nothing in common, who do not know who they are, where they are, who the other three are… not even who they themselves are.

Only one bizarre thing connects them – they all know how to sing the same song until they discover a way of remembering.

The line up consists of Kristjana Casha, Franica Pulis, Simone Spiteri and Magda van Kuilenburg, with special participation by Jonathan Mamo and Victoria Vella, and an ensemble of live musicians: pianist Tim Ellis, violinist Chris Cini and percussionist Michael Galea.
