Once again, Centru Animazzjoni Missjunarja, also known as CAM, has sent a group of lay missionaries to Peru. Last month, five lay missionaries went to Peru, where they will be carrying out voluntary work in the parishes run by the Missionary Society of St Paul in the city of Arequipa. They will be working primarily in three parishes: Acequia Alta, which is directed by Fr Frank Cortis, Enace by Fr Alex Busuttil and La Tomilla by Fr Giovanni Cefai. One of the main projects with which they will be helping is the care of around 55 children who live in the Aldea Sagrada Familia, which is a home for children who have been abandoned or who have family or social problems. They will also be helping out in other projects, such as visiting families or individuals who are very poor and helping prepare the daily meals in the

public kitchens, as well as teaching English and handicrafts to adults and children.

Pauline Bartolo, Chrissy Borg Cunen, Karen Azzopardi, Stephanie Falzon and Francesca Rizzo (pictured above) are participating in an enriching missionary experience that they will cherish for the rest of their life.

As well as the five new lay missionaries, Maris Camilleri has been working in Peru since February 2003. A nurse by profession, Maris works in the parish of Enace in Arequipa and as well as nursing care, she helps out in various other projects.

CAM assists in the preparation of people who are interested in working as lay missionaries in Peru, generally for a year. A new LMSP programme is being planned in the next few months.
