Over the last few weeks, the Chinese Cultural Centre, in collaboration with Santa Lucija local council, has been hosting the Summer Film Breeze at the Garden of Serenity in Santa Lucija. The films selected for screening have touched on a vast array of themes that are embedded in Chinese culture, such as the nation’s history, traditions and national heri-tage. The Garden of Serenity is the ideal setting for such an initiative as it contains unique Chinese Suzhou-style features, such as the pavilions, fountains, ponds and cloisters. Beautiful Homeland (With English subtitles)

Synopsis: On a beautiful grassy plain in western China, an elderly Kazak leads a traditional nomadic life with his family. Although life is hard, they enjoy the quiet and peaceful days. One day, an intruder disrupts this tranquility. A lovesick girl shows up riding a black horse. The old man deems her appearance a fatal crisis to his family, as his young son is now thinking of leaving the plain for the city. To keep his son in the family, the old man decides to give him everything and he even expects his widowed daughter-in-law to marry her younger brother-in-law. Nevertheless, the heart of his son is as unpredictable as the clouds floating in the sky. Deep inside the old man’s heart, a struggle between the simple grassy plain and the sophisticated city has secretly begun...
